I am…! What my paramedic friend told me about “lives that could have been saved”…!

… I saw a friend of mine the other day who I haven’t seen in quite a while…!

….

My friend said…!

I’ve been working in EMS for over 20 years.

. ..in such a demanding field…

Every year, several patients collapse from cardiopulmonary arrest and are treated in the emergency room, but unfortunately die.

….

If the patient is treated within 3 to 5 minutes after the cardiopulmonary arrest, there is almost no disability and there is a high possibility of survival.

….

However, after more than 5 minutes, brain death begins, and after more time, death occurs in many cases.

….

This means how quickly the initial treatment can be given after cardiopulmonary arrest.

….

If the patient is treated in 3 to 5 minutes, someone with CRP (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) skills will have to rush to the scene and treat the patient in time.

….

Therefore, in Okinawa Prefecture, as of 2020, about 3,500 AEDs (devices that flow electricity to the heart to create and regulate the flow of blood), medical devices to perform the CRP procedure, have been installed in various locations.

….

….

….

My friend further suggested how to solve this problem…!

….

There are many certified EMTs in Okinawa Prefecture, and many of them are scattered throughout the prefecture.

….

In the event of a cardiopulmonary arrest, there must be someone who can get close to the victim, administer AED and other treatment, and pass on to the soon-to-be-arrived emergency personnel.

….

Even if you have enough AEDs, it is a problem whether you have enough people to treat the patients with them or not.

….

….

I have heard so much about AEDs…!

….

I’ve spent my life knowing only the barest outline of what they are.

….

I was surprised at the fact that the lives that could have been saved were not.

….

….

….

…….

Great work…….

…….

It’s a great activity.

I hope that the use of human resources and information technology will reduce the sadness in the field of emergency medical services.

….

I hope they find a breakthrough solution.
